Abstract: THE ROLE OF ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE IN MOTIVATING EMPLOYEES

Objective: This study aims to (1) examine the impact of organizational change on employee motivation, (2) identify key factors influencing employee reactions to change, and (3) assess the role of change management strategies in enhancing motivation and performance.

Research Design: A survey design was chosen to gather comprehensive data from employees about their experiences with organizational change and its impact on motivation.

Sample Size: According to Taro Yamane's formula, a sample size of 380 employees was determined, ensuring a 95% confidence level with a 5% margin of error.

Case Study: The research focused on the retail sector, where organizational change is frequent due to market dynamics and consumer trends.

Location: Lagos, a major commercial center with a dynamic retail industry.

Reliability Coefficient Score: The survey instrument achieved a Cronbach's alpha score of 0.89, indicating high reliability.

Findings: Organizational change, when effectively managed with clear communication, employee involvement, and support mechanisms, can significantly enhance employee motivation. Poorly managed changes often lead to uncertainty and decreased motivation among employees.

Recommendation: Retail organizations should implement robust change management strategies that prioritize clear communication, employee engagement, and support to minimize disruption, enhance motivation, and drive organizational success.
